Acceptable Use Policy
Draft for legal review. Not yet reviewed by a lawyer.
VelvetAPI generates explicit images of fictional adults. This policy applies to every account, API key and end user of an application built on VelvetAPI. Breaking it can mean refused requests, withheld outputs, suspended end users or accounts, and reports to law enforcement.
Adults only
You must be 18 or older, and old enough to view sexual content where you live. If you build on the API, you must age-check your own users to the standard your audience’s jurisdictions require (a self-declared age isn’t enough in the UK and in many US states), and send each request’s end-user id as user.
Never allowed
- Any sexual or sexualized depiction of a minor or of anyone who appears to be under 18, in any style: photorealistic, illustrated, animated, 3D or fictional. Youth-coded content is included: “teen” references, school uniforms or classrooms in sexual contexts, ageplay, infantilization, or childlike bodies or behavior.
- Intimate or sexual depictions of a real, identifiable person without their documented consent, including “undressing” a photo, face swaps and look-alikes. Being famous or having public photos isn’t consent.
- Sharing intimate images of anyone without consent, and threatening to.
- Sexual violence or non-consent, incest, bestiality and necrophilia.
- Using generated images to harass, defame, extort, impersonate or deceive anyone, or to get past identity checks.
- Anything illegal where you, your users or your viewers are.
How we enforce it
- Every prompt is screened. Requests that reference minors are refused. Requests the semantic screen refuses count as strikes, and an end user with 10 strikes is suspended.
- Every image from our own GPUs is checked before delivery. Explicit images in which a person appears to be under 18 are withheld, not charged, and kept for review.
- Reference images must be images your account generated. Uploaded photos aren’t accepted.
- Suspected child sexual abuse material is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) as US law requires, and the account is suspended.
- Reports. Anyone can report an output at velvetapi.dev/report or through
POST /v1/reports. Non-consensual intimate images, AI-generated ones included, come down as soon as they’re reported and are reviewed within 48 hours, as the TAKE IT DOWN Act requires.
If you run an application on VelvetAPI
- Give your users a way to report content to you, and act on reports within 24 hours.
- Label shareable images as AI-generated.
- Keep a record of which of your users made which request.
- Don’t try to get around the screening (for example by splitting or encoding prompts). Doing so is treated as intent, whatever the wording.
